Fish River Canyon is located in Southern Namibia and is the largest Canyon on the African continent. It is also the second-largest canyon in the world - only after the Grand Canyon in the USA.
Fish River Canyon has a gigantic ravine that is about 100 kilometers long, 27 kilometers wide, and around 500 meters deep. It is a wonderful destination that is popular with hikers both local and international. This is why it is Namibia's second most visited attraction.

When To Visit
Fish River Canyon is open for hiking only from May to mid-September. This is because of the extreme temperatures in the other months of the year.
The best time to hike Fish River Canyon is between the months of June and July when the temperatures are slightly comfortable.
Be advised that night temperature can drop below 10 degrees Celcius, or even to freezing, and therefore warm clothing and a good sleeping bag are necessary.
Getting There
You can get to Fish River Canyon through South Africa or from Windhoek - Namibia's Capital. From the South African border, Fish River Canyon is located 200 kilometers north into Namibia, which takes about 3 hours to drive.
If you are coming from Windhoek, Fish River Canyon is located 700 kilometers south and the drive will take you between 8 and 9 hours.
Where To Stay
During the Hike, camping will be your only form of accommodation. There are several places where you will be able to set up camp for the night. Be sure to carry a warm sleeping bag because it gets very cold at night.
At both the starting and finishing points of your hike, there are many options of hotels and lodges with campgrounds and great facilities - and you will find it easy to choose one or the other.
