South Luangwa National Park is located in eastern Zambia at the tail end of the Great Rift Valley. South Luangwa, also called "the South Park" by locals is renowned for its diverse wildlife that concentrates near the meandering river and lagoons.
The main attraction in South Luangwa National Park is the animals, which include around 60 mammals and more than 400 bird species. The blissful walking safaris allow visitors to see many animals including huge groups of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions, and more.

When To Visit
You can visit South Luangwa National Park at any time of the year. The best and most popular time to visit is during the dry season months from June to September. This is when animals gather around the river and lagoons for water.
The dry season is also the peak tourist season, and therefore if you don't enjoy crowded places, you can book as early as in May or at the start of October.
Getting There
Many international flights go to Zambia's main entry point, Lusaka International Airport. From Lusaka, you can get a short domestic flight and be at Mfuwe Airport within 80 minutes. Mfuwe also has connecting flights to other destinations in Zambia as well as neighboring Malawi.
Alternatively, you can go to South Luangwa by road using a capable 4wd car. The 9-hour long drive is quite long but you can make stops along the way and explore Zambia's countryside as well as other attractions.
