Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in Southwestern Uganda on a border with Rwanda and DRC. Aside from being the other place where you can see mountain gorillas, Mgahinga is the only place where you can find golden monkeys in Uganda.
Mgahinga is blessed with a special ecosystem of animals, plants, birds and primates. The 3 extinct volcanoes present a striking feature of the park and provide for some of the best hiking adventures in the area.
At the peak of one of these volcanoes, Sabinyo, you will be able to stand on the border of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC - all at once.

When To Visit
You can Visit Mgahinga Gorilla National Park at any time of the year. Summer months (June to September) are most preferred among visitors, because the rainy season can leave you totally drenched and shivering. As long as you follow the packing guides for gorilla tracking, the seasons shouldn't matter.
Please remember that this is a high-altitude area with dense natural rain forests, rain fall is highly unpredictable and the season doesn't guarantee dry days.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located 510 kilometers from Kampala - in Southwestern Uganda. There are other ways for you to easily reach Mgahinga.
You can either access Mgahinga from Rwanda or DRC by road, as well as Entering Uganda through Entebbe International Airport.
Local Chartered flights can be used to move from Entebbe/Kampala to Kisoro Airstrip in just a few hours.
A drive from Kampala to Kisoro would take at least 8 hours. A drive from Kigali in Rwanda is much shorter and will take about 4 hours (including the border crossing process).
The roads are good and don't require a very strong car. The need for the 4WD might come in on the short drive to the park headquarters, but regular cars can handle it if the drive is well aware of the area.
