Tarangire National Park is a national park situated in the Manyara region of Tanzania. Its name originates from the Tarangire river that crosses the park. The river is the source of freshwaters to the wildlife in all seasons.
The area was considered a lion conservation unit since 2005, and it’s a home for over 550 bird species and is also known as the oldest elephant to give birth to twins. The wildlife concentrates around the river during the dry season. These animals include the honey badger, waterbuck, olive baboons, wildebeest, and zebras.
The park covers around 2850 square kilometres. This land comprises granite ridges, a river valleys and swamps. This is why animals concentrate in the park. The park also enhances wildlife research on the Masai giraffe and the African bush elephants.
Activities
1. Game Viewing
This is the most practiced activity in Tarangire national park, explore the park by embarking on the game drives and experience the adorable beauty of seeing large herds of elephants and other animals just along the way. These drives are mostly carried out in the morning and evening.
Animals include oryx, olive baboons, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, hippos, white rhinos, and so many others. Game viewing is more exciting during the months of July to November, tourists can capture wonderful memories of elephants muddy digging in search of drinking water.
2. Sightseeing

Tarangire National Park has got the best viewing spots for bird watching at the shores of the Tarangire river, swamps, and the woodlands.
Tarangire National Park is blessed with more than 500 bird species with different beautified colors and characters which include kori bustards, hornbill, guinea fowl, and many more others.
When To Visit
Tarangire National Park can be visited at any time of the year but is mostly visited during the months of July to October before the animals migrate out of the park.
