You have probably eaten chocolate that grew in Ghana before making its way to your local supermarket. Ghana's culture and urban life are a massive attraction, and result of the prosperous entertainment industry, and it is worth exploring.

As with other countries, visitors must obtain travel visas before being allowed entry into Ghana. Some countries are exempt from visas and you should check to confirm whether you need to get a visa or not - especially if you are from Africa.

As one of the safest countries in Africa, Ghana is worth visiting - whether for pleasure or business. In this article, we'll look at what you need to get a visa for Ghana.

Ghana Visa Requirements

Here are all the things needed for you to get a visa that allows you entry into Ghana.

  • A current passport with at least 6 months of validity and one blank page
  • 2 recent passport-sized photographs (no glasses or headwear)
  • Completed and signed visa application form
  • A copy of your itinerary or a return ticket

Ghana Visa Process

To get the Ghana Visa application form, you should visit the Ghana embassy in your country (for example www.ghanaembassydc.org). From the embassy website, you will be redirected to where you can fill out the Visa application form online and submit it.

There is both a standard and an expedited service for visas - at different costs. Since you are advised to wait for 10 to 15 days before getting your confirmation, it is better to not purchase your ticket until your visa is confirmed.

Please note that different embassies have online application portals that might not have the option for your country. Be sure to search for the one that works on a visa for your country.

Ghana Visa On Arrival

Citizens of African Union member states (except  Morocco) which are not exempt can obtain a visa on arrival for 150 USD. Visa on arrival is valid for 30 days.

Citizens of other non-exempt countries must acquire a visa before coming to Ghana.

Ghana allows visa-free entry for the following citizens of the following countries. Most visa-free entries can be allowed to visit for a period of up to 90 days unless otherwise stated.

Visa For Minors

For travelers under the age of 18, the following extra requirements must be provided.

  • A copy of the traveler's birth certificate
  • Copies of the parent's ID or passport
  • Parents must sign the visa application form
  • A signed and notarized consent by the parents, that allows the minor to travel
